No amount of reasoning will assuage the poor. They cannot get the same stuff for their almost fixed income.
The essential items have to be given away at fixed prices, that is subsidise them.
The oil price is a culprit. Nobody knows how high it can go, except it is not going to come down much, if at all. Oil is essential in all activities, so we have to try for lesser dependence on a war footing. Much easier said than done! Unless there is some break-throughs, we have little hope.
All parties should go for a common platform to attack this vital issue. So far, the issue is just a political game with an eye on next election.
