Its time other Indian cities learn from Bangalore
by Sankalp Shrie on Sep 25, 2007 04:15 PM

I have been staying in the so called IT capital of India for more than a year now. Landed in the city with images from my childhood days and dreams in my eyes. But all were lost with each passing day. I don't see even the slightest of indications of things improving for the better for Bangalore and more importantly for Bangaloreans. Its time the Govt. and Ministry of Urban Development learns from their past mistakes and put in place model framework and guidelines for Town Planning and Development and see to it that the same are implemented in the right earnest.
When Delhi went green by introducing CNG buses, widening its roads, introducing Metro, I fail to understand, why the other metros and cities kept waiting for situations to go out of hand reach a point of no return.
None of the cities in India are making efforts to improve infrastructure, connectivity. People are forced to rely on own transport coz the public transport is non functional. Add to it the offers which auto majors have to offer. Politicians visit Singapore, Beijing, NY, Tokyo for Ideas but when will those ideas translate to reality.
Proper migration phenomenon needs to be tracked to plan infrastructure for the future. IT companies flourished in Bangalore and Pune and brought with them an ever increasing work force. IT majors are moving to new cities with Bangalore and Pune dying. Its time that local authorities start upgrading their infrastructure and make see to it that the story is not repeated.
