Beware of Airtel: internet speed Throttling in full swing in Unlimited 699/780/999/1250/2000Offers
I am user of airtel home 699 128kbps connection unlimited in delhi and was getting file download speed of 17-20 kbps during day and 30-34 kbps during night. since 15th of oct, 07 they reduced my speed to max file download speed of 10 kbps day or night. Earlier i was getting min. 128 kbps bandwidth , now they reduced it to 64 kbps bandwidth to max 128 kbps bandwidth which never happens. the reason they are citing isas i'm downloading more than 3 gb per month, i am a commercial user and not a residential user. Hence the speed is reduced. Funny thing is in my office in gurgaon the same connection is there and heavy downloads are there still there we are getting best speeds of 20 kbps in day and 35-40 kbps in night (so much for differentiation b/w commercial and residential usage) when asked about this to airtel care they said it will happen everywhere now. if i'm paying for unlimited 128kbps then i should get min file download speed of 32 kbps acc to TRAI guidelines with max upto 64 kbps which never happened. Airtel is a big cheatercock & beware of this.

Acc to TRAI: Broadband limit is 256 KBps ie 256 Kilobytes per second which is equivalent to 256 x 8 = 2 mb or megabits per second.

Funny: 1 byte = 8 bits now. Now ISPs are claiming all benefits from Govt. for providing broadband and are providing 256 kbps and not 256 KBps.
