this is generate all round benefits, not only to the BPO operators and employees but also to the surrounding population. the road and train connectivity will improve if there is more traffic to these small towns. there will be increasing focus by the people in these small towns for better infrastructure from the government. there will be peripheral employment that will be generated in large numbers especially in the services sector to cater to the new employment generated. i can hardly see any disadvantage from this move. in fact, to increase the momentum of this shift of BPO to smaller cities, state govt can look at incentives like lower stamp duty etc; bigger centres like bangalore, hyderabad, chennai will continue to be the real magnets for growth but they are getting saturated and those of us who live here are feeling the crunch.
