India's mobile service and rates are the best in the world. There is no where in the world, not USA not Europe where consumer get such a value for money. This was mainly achieved by TRAI's visionary thinking in early 2000.
By auctioning, initial cost would be so exorbitant for the winning bidder so that they would be forced to increaser subscriber cost instead of decreasing it.
CDMA is sorta dead technology. As it ties customers with Qualcomm's patented handset. And customer can't switch operator at will. With that itself Reliance & Tata Tele Services are giving Airtel and Vodafone run for their money.
If Tata Tele and Reliance fully come to GSM space rates would come down so drastically to the benefit of customer.
Don't mistake me. Personally I don't like Reliance or Ambanis. But at current juncture, Giving Tatas and Reliance the GSM spectrum is in the interest of consumer.
Lets go with TRAI recommendation. They had always been right in the past. TRAI was the one which broke the BSNL monopoly. Do you remember the time when BSNL wanted to run the whole mobile show? Had BSNL been given free hand we all customers would have have throughly screwwwed by state monopoly and indifferent public sector BSNL employees.
