Basically, I am opposed to acquiring agricultural land for industrialization. This acquisition is not a good trend if you take environment into consideration. Outskirts of Chennai, Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur etc where we have big buildings of TCS, CTS, Wipro, Infy, Accenture etc were once fertile, agricultural land providing food to whole Chennai. Infact, I learnt from a website that even the places like Mylapore, Gopalapuram (heart of city) were once paddy fields in early 20th century. Now, we have converted them to a Concrete Jungle. If we are going in very fast rate in converting agricultural land to concrete jungle, a day might come when we get a new Nokia Phone for Rs 50 and a Kg of rice for Rs 500. Do you want this to happen? On the other hand, I am not against the growth. But, the growth should be planned growth. Govt should have a committee of agriculturalist, economist, scientist etc. They should workout a plan so that non-agricultural land can be taken for growth. Of course, we have more waste land than fertile land. Make use of them, build road, necessary infrastructure in these area and develop them to a city.
We see growth in this country, but unfortunately it is UNPLANNED GROWTH.
