I wish Prof Amartya Sen would devote time to analyse the problem of the farmer suicides of small and marginal farmers. The problem is endemic to Vidarbha and also in a so called advanced state of Maharashtra. This is also a state where chronic malnutrition afflicts certain tribal communities. The official explanation of rural indebtedness does not seem to touch the real cause of this phenomenon.
