WallMart's entry into India
by Shridhar Iyer on Apr 23, 2007 03:44 PM

I personally feel that

1) Wall Mart's entry will give more options to the buying public. For example, I may like to buy a Chinese Wrist Watch at around Rs.300/- instead of a Titan for Rs.3000/=

2) It might force existing Big Baazrs, Super Bazars, and other Malls to be better in quality, price, and services.

3) The middlemen might be reduced, as Wall Mart will get things direct from Manufacturers, which will help the people to get better quality products at better prices.

4) Indian manufacturers will have to be better in quality and price if they want their goods to be sold in Wall-Mart.

5) Our Retailers don't pay well and treat employees well, either. Therefore we may not have any grudge on this aspect too!

6) The author has quoted about Sri Lankans, and Bangaladesh Tea to be sold by Wall-Mart in India. If it is better in quality and price, than Indian made tea, there is no harm in buying them. This will, in the long run, force the Indian manufacturers also to improve quality and price.

Therefore I dont think there is any harm in welcoming Wall-Mart in India.

With best wishes,

V.Srinivasan.
