Forget not the social development in Kerala.
by Sooraj R on Sep 20, 2006 08:52 AM

The social conditions available in Kerala is far better than any state.Keralites are much worried about the social development than the mere industrialisation. You can look at the last edition of India Today. In an article (I think the article named "state of states")there is a comparison between states. In that Benagl fell down like anything in all indexes of social development while Kerala ranked 1st or 2nd in the most majority of them.
Look at this statistics.
Keralas birth rate is 14 per 1,000 females and falling fast. India's rate is 25 per 1,000 females and that of the U.S. is 16. Keralas infant mortality rate is 10 per 1,000 births versus 70 for India and 7 for the US. Its adult literacy rate is 91 per cent compared to Indias 65 and the US's 96. Life expectancy at birth in Kerala is 73 years compare to 61 years in India and 76 years in the US. Female life expectancy in Kerala exceeds that of the male, just as it does in the developed world.I believe the traditional left in Kerala is solely responsible for that.

No wonder why Mr.V.S.Achutandan is following the same great tradition of 'Kerala-model development' formulated by Great EMS Namboodiripad.
