Is there something special about him apart from the wealth?
by Nandini on May 07, 2006 07:01 AM

It is very interesting to read about the evolution of Lakshmi Mittal from being a member of a middle class Indian family to the richest man in the world. But then, the contrast between his present position on the wealth list and the large percentage of Indians citizens living below poverty line cannot be more striking. While the article speaks about Mr. Mittal holding an Indian Passport and his being passionate about his roots, it does not mention if he has done anything at all to help this vast chunk of Indians who cannot afford a decent meal everyday. If not, we should probably just add him to the list of disgustingly rich Indians who make hollow declarations of love for their country and move on.
