Politics driving economics!
by Giri Girishankar on Mar 22, 2006 01:46 AM

Most of Indias elected representatives swear by certain ideologies, including economic concepts, more because of their allegiance to parochial and tribalistic political parties and leaders with a narrow vision, rather than because of a keenly developed sense and understanding of the logic and dynamics of the subject. Economics is one such area. It is this lack of understanding, which makes them skeptical of businessmen and their success. Consequently, they have tended to grab and hold on to responsibilities they do not know how to fulfill. It, therefore, becomes necessary for a few apolitical and knowledgeable leaders like Dr. Manmohan Singh to educate the public on economic strategies and the countrys economic growth.
