Reviving magic of Kolkatta
by labrea on Jun 24, 2006 10:07 PM

Seeing Kolkatta today one would be hard-pressed to imaigine that it was once the Capital of India (British Raj) until it was moved to New Delhi in the '30s. The delapidation of the magnificent structures of this era was shamelessly allowed to deteriorate by every state and city govt, especially the Communists, who saw in these structures, reminders of foreign domination, rather than assets of the city and the nation. Now perhaps, with money to be made from tourism and such like, these structures can be given a new lease on life as landmark heritage structures to be cherished and maintained.
