Perils of he 6th Pay Commission
by S.Ramaswamy on Feb 09, 2006 08:30 PM

As has been pointd out, the efect of the 5h Pay Commission was so devastating that some states could not pay the salaries.Increase salaries. Then increase taxes to meet such increased salary burden.Gear your self up for another round of acrimonious debate between states and the centre about the devolution of the central revenue.Keep on increasing the states' share and reach a stage where the centre will become financially so weak that the states will start dictating .Wait for the day of disintegraion of the nation.Scary scenario. But perfectly probable
If the Govt does not have either the will or the strength to implement the full recommendations of the Pay Commissions it will be wiser not to have Pay Commissions
The Govt employees are the most pampered lot.
There is a strong case for downsizing the strength of the Govt employees to some extent reduce the impact of the likely pay increase .The imbalance pointed out is also true It also has to be addressed. If the employees are unwilling to earn the increased emoluments through improved efficiency and taking up extra load there can not be a case for increase in salary
