I think the author has made offhand comments. he has forgotten that there was a massive agitation by women of villages affected by ground water depletion caused by coke plants.
I am for the ban. Had coke and pepsi rectified the pesticide content after the previous round of exposes, matters might have been different.
If pesticide is in everything, cleaning has to start from somewhere. The authors argument is equivalent to saying corruption is everywhere, so big cases of corruption should not be punished.
The authors comments that there will be loss of jobs is also baseless. coke and pepsi ban will not close restaurants or stores. factories closure is offset by improvement in water for agriculture on which more people are dependent.
