Democracy has its disadvantages
by Hari on May 01, 2006 12:39 AM

Quota system survives these days mostly for political reasons.
The so called minorities are a big majority when it comes to Votes and election. In most places in India, the minorities who enjoy the quota system are more organized than others. Take exmples of the Muslim league, SNDP etc. And when you are organized you have a big and controled vote bank.
These necessarily are some disadvantages which a Peoples Democracy has to live with.
Essentially, the evolution principles which work in favour of the fittest would some day turn things around. 'The' who struggle survive.
For most part of the previous centuries, the majorities ruled our communities. The Brahmins and Kshathriyas played the smart game and became rich and affluent. 21st century is only finding a reversal.
