A very true article calling a spade a spade. Oppression of backward castes still goes on, primarily in rural areas where policies and government has not been able to reach. But those are hardly the people who benefit from reservation. People benefitting from reservation are those who got to attend good schools, could afford tuitions, are well-to-do, but belong to the backward castes.
Upper castes may have been responsible for oppressing the lower castes in the past and in the present. But how is punishing the whole caste a solution? And so many reservations so as to put the upper castes in minority, that too reservations clearly promoting those belonging to a particular caste rather than a more deserving candidate? That is grossly unfair. Many people justify that as "now upper castes will know how it feels to be deprived and oppressed". Is that the purpose of reservation, or just a vendetta that the government is officially inflicting on its citizens? Government should begin by taking a census of profiling all those who have benefited from reservations in the last 10 years vs. their economic state. They will know how misleading all the arguments on reservations are. But looks like the Government will be the last one to even bother about the true reasons!
