The 'secret' of Indian education's success!
by CS Muralidhar on Apr 13, 2006 04:12 PM

This is a special message for Spellings, Enzi and rest of the US delegation who want to know how India is fairing on the educational front. They will not be much impressed if they have a close look at some of our universities and their goings-on. But the 'secret' of India's education system is that the politicians at the centre as well as the states constantly come up with policies of making it tougher and tougher for meritorious students to enter portals of higher education by sneaking in reservations and special quotas thus depleting the quantum available for merit based admissions. But the ingenuity and perseverence of the Indian middle-class is no less dogged. They put in even more hard work of mammoth proportions in order to remain within the ever-depleting fraction available for merit. In fact, look at the surfeit of graduates of all streams churned out from the myriad colleges of India. But the bright ones among them form a small fraction. And the quality of this small band is ever increasing. The beneficiary of this output is the American educational and employment market which receives this ever improving stream of educated youngsters year after year for decades now!
