Caution
by Dileep on May 17, 2005 03:14 PM

First let me warn people against the notion that finally the main indian purpose of premier technical institutions is served. I may agree with the third reason pointed out (decrease in the opportunities in US for IITians). But not certainly with the first two because this is only a case of few toppers in IIT who have a choice between Admit to good univ in US and a very good job in (mind you it is most of the times in MNC) India.
And if u closely monitor there is another trend quite contrary to this. More and more people(IITians mainly) working in India are very much looking towards an MS or MBA abroad as they realise that this is the best they can do with the opportunities available.
So, staying back is just a temporary shift in the mindest of IITians and there are stiil no enough opportunities in India to sustain this.
And the jobs that most of the IITians settling with in India are again in IT which makes no distinction from other engg colleges.
So, I would just like to say this is not a big change that we all are hoping for i.e. India really competing for Best Brain Capture and in fact something to be worried about too as more IITians are made to settle in not so best career.
