BS
by anantha on May 17, 2005 06:48 PM

A couple of relevant points, but a lot of bullshit thrown in!

"Moreover, getting admissions for MS for an IITian in a US university is very tough these days because many American students are opting for master's programmes."

Hmmm, so in that case, why did the US govt increase work visas by 20,000 starting this yr, with those 20,000 specifically for foriegn students with an advanced degree?

"Also, Vasudev says, if someone commits to do a PhD in the US, it takes about seven years, which is not an attractive proposition at present."

This is another BS again! The commentor seems to have no idea about the system. On the maximum, it takes 5 yrs to get done with a PHD (alone) after a Masters (2 years with a thesis, one and a half years without a thesis). If the student decides during his Masters program that he will want to proceed with a PhD in the same university, the course work is usually adjusted. In this way, a substantial part of the course work for the PhD is waived because the student does all that during his Masters itself! In this way, a student completes both his Masters and Phd within 5 yrs!
