This is a sad fact that India being the largest democracy is also the most in-disciplined one in the world. With a little bit of discipline will come world class status such as Japan, US or even China. This can only come when we as a nation understand the difference between our Rights and our Duties. When we can demand our fundamental rights, we are also bound by certain duties and one of them is to uphold the law in any situation. When the Honda workers went on rampage, it would be foolish to say they were only demanding their rights. They were also indulging in mindless acts of violence, looting and burning as seen on TV all these days. What the public sees is what it wants to see - police brutality. I feel in a situation of this magnitude, the police did the right thing by ordering a lathi charge, though they did go overboard in their enthusiasm. Such high handedness is required to teach some anti-social elements within that crowd a bit of discipline. We as a country should understand that matters are not resolved by resorting to violence. They are far more counterproductive than any help. This matter could have been settled within the framework of the law and the company rules.
