Middle class was always there
by Ayondeep on Jul 03, 2005 01:10 AM

Middle class was always there. It didn't arrive from anywhere, but it has suddenly become noticeable though, because of the great success achieved by bright students from so called middle class .Talking about numerical strength (300 million approx), has the ratio (middle class/higher class/poor class)really changed in over last 20 years? Does anybody has any comparitive figure?

Also judging standard of living of Indian people with that of west is not a good practice. Primary needs are different in both world. It sholudn't bother that India still sells 25 million bicycles and most people watch b&w TV. The day we stop chasing western standard of living, half of our miseries will end. Do the basics right, like the west has done in their time. For example to keep our surrounding clean does not need state of the art technologies and PhDs to understand its importance.

Sorry for the divertion from the topic. What I want to say is, the middle class strength of India comes from its strongly bonded family structure, which the west lacks.Keep that culture alive and stop being copy cats of west.
