While Salil may have his say (and why not being head marketing in a company like LG could afford him that), it would be pretty wrong to assume that B-schools lack the CS factor. In fact most of the sessions involve ingesting the CS factor in huge doses. Any reputed B-school helps in grooming the student to grasp the realities in a particular situation and to do so you have to be pretty contextual and understand the dynamics of the situation. Sense, common or uncommon, is absolutely essential. It is with this that the B-school arms you so that one may identify with the situation in real life and churn up the wisdom gained and work. Common sense is not the personal property of any particular individual, be it MBAs or Civil Service Officers or Scientists. It is found in abundance everywhere and it is upto the individual to garnish her life with. Now if B-schools do not have this, how on earth would they attract some of the brightest candidates into their precincts. Perhaps Salil, FMS would be able to tell you that. And wait a minute, work experience before the MBA would be great, but does it really matter? At the end of the day, it is the temperament that matters most.
