I don't disagree that these decisions have contributed. But the article seems heavily one sided. Each of these decisions have their fallibility
1. Universal Franchise is great and an absolute must - but it has not contributed to the progressive empowerment of women. 33% reservation might, just might. Only complete education for all will bring some good measure of success in this case.
2. Bangladesh war - No doubt, one of the greatest victories of India. Though this war was forced on India by the circunstances created by Pak, Pak is not going to forget this wound easily. Kashmir problem is its direct fall-out. As pointed out, china-ISI sabotage in the N-E had temporarily been curtailed, but has been taken up with vigour by both those countries to teach India a lesson. 3. Liberalization has worked its magic only for a small percentage of population - I feel the gap between the haves and have nots is just increasing. Again, this was a decision that was inevitable, in fact China beat us there by 10 years and is reaping its benefit to the fullest. Problem with Indian liberalization is that India has not found a good way to ensure that all get the share of bounty. 4. India's nuclear Muscle. I think this was a great decision. Indira Gandhi should have gone ahead with her plan in 70's before the NPT. Then we would not have thorny problems such as current N-Deal 5. India needs to be very careful with US. They dump anyone for their countries benefit and rightly so.
