RE:5 decisions that changed Indian
by vasu_erfolg on Aug 15, 2007 10:23 PM

Together with these "positive" decisions, we should also remember some negative decisions that cost us dearly - (1) the decision to stop the military action in Kashmir in 1947 (of driving the paki tribals out) and referring the dispute to the UN (2) the decision to antagonize China and subsequently ignore the real threat of an invasion - largely due to Krishna Menon's incompetence and Nehru's complicity with his incompetence - that eventually led to the chinese war; (3) the decision to extend the caste-based reservation decade after decade; (4) the Shah-Bano case and the subsequent surrender to the muslims by making constitutional changes for appeasing the muslims; (5) the decision to free the three dreaded terrorists in exchange for the 150-odd passengers held hostage in Khandahar, on that fateful day in tJan. 2000. These are just samples - the lack of political will to implement several useful and sensible recommendations by various commissions would sum up to a colossal "missed opportunity" list by our politicians.
