I cannot agree more with what you said. While one cannot say rural situation is same as urban, the so called "women empowerment" by so called "educated women" has done nothing but create a saga of unprecendented state sponsered legal terrorism on innocent men and his mothers and sisters in the name of dowry laws. There is no punishment for filing these most draconian false cases. In this law the husband has to prove that he did not do any crime, did not take dowry, has to run in courts for a mimimum of 10 years along with his entire extended families including far away distant cousins who are relatives only for name sake. How does this abuse of innocent men and women help genuine victims. It does not. It only creates a bigger human rights abuse as it is happening in urban societies silently.

Even by making simple changes to law like incorporating punishment at the end of 10 years to the guilty party (who ever it is) abusers will stop and genuine victims can get faster justice. Also, laws must be crime based and not gender based. If a man has proof of domestic violence he must get some relief as well. Take the example of Kerala HC judgement on DV where he mnetioned that the case of DV filed by a wife of a disabled husband was a case of DV on the husband and there is no law to punish such women in spite of the evidence present in the courts. If there is no provision by law itself for such victims to get even basic justice how can we achieve equality?
