It is not the physical exertion, but the sweat and dirt at the end of the ride which puts off people from cycling to work. If we had the luxury of showering in the office and a place to change clothes, many would actually be willing to use cycles to the office. Barring the people working in high profile companies, the ordinary middle class Indians don't have much options.
