Intention is divine but...
by Ravikant Bhat on Feb 01, 2008 11:07 AM

The intention of the author is divine. I would like to believe this article is a satire that employs exaggeration to the extreme. May be the author has purposely used the tone to highlight the glaring 'extremist' mindset (I do not mean 'terrorist' or 'fundamentalist') that is growing in the society. So I would like to give the author benefit of doubt.

But in case the author sincerely believes in many of those words he has churned, I think I have loads of trouble with him.

Proteins for mid-day meal program, yes. But why eggs? Why not leafy vegetables? Our scriptures (I am a Hindu so I am referring to them) certainly tell a lot on being 'Shuchirbhut'... that includes not spitting paan and the like. Our problem is we don't want to study them.

As for the moral brigade who want to police the dress one wears, I think they go too far sometimes. Let us not forget we are different from the West. Hence, something 'normal' in the West might be 'outrageous' in the east. It will take time to evolve. No need to make scathing remarks. As for Shriya's outfit (I have seen the photo), I think they were just OK. (May be I feel so because I am used to seeing women wearing such stuff in Mumbai). Tam's may take some time to accept it... so be a bit generous to them...
