my experiences-3
by krishnan on Jan 04, 2008 12:56 AM

imagine my dismay when my colleague happened to see this and immediately asked the patient to come over and finished his treatment when others were sttill waiting their turn..and as indians are meek as lambs..not one patient protested at this differential treatment.
Lastly, after a few years in academics i happen to have a few scientific publications..yet i always try to get them published in any western journal because i have seen that only a western tag tends to get acknowledge by my peers and superiors..now am i being rascist or what???
if this is what doctors think and behave like..what to say of the layman??its natural for such prejudices to be deeply embedded in our psyche...
regarding politeness, i have been fortunate to have had excellent teachers and parents who made it sure that i would be as polite as possible. however when i see the boorish behaviour that is so prevelant in india now, i shudder and wonder if i have been taught the wrong skills? politeness is taken as weakness in india..i have seen that when i am polite to my junior staff..they think its becos i am young and am not confident!!what an attitude!!a rough brashful behaviour from my colleagues gets the work done!!who is to blame for this weird thinking that we indians seem to be developing..i really fear for our country seeing the kind of culture that is being encouraged by our uncouth movies(that we proudly call BOLLYWOOD-the ultimate xmpl of our complex), politicians and serials.luk fwd 2 resp
