what about farmers pay hike ?
by earth ling on Apr 09, 2008 05:30 PM

anyone thought how will farmers get a hike without food prices going up ?
either his yield has to increase or he has to increase his land holdings.
can govt give land ?
can it help improving yield - after 60's green revolution our yield is still average 2 tonnes per hectare

so how ?

small farmer has 2 hectares

1 hectare = 2.47 acre = 330 sq ft by 330 sq ft
2 hectare = approx 467 sq ft by 467 sq ft
1 tonne = 1000 kg
price of rice per kg for farmer rs 10

small farmer pay per 4-5 months = rs 10 * 2 * 1000 = 20,000 = rs 4000-5000 per month.
assuming rice crop take 4-5 months time.

if crop fails you can imagine ...

imaging a small farmer husband-wife tilling a 467 sq-ft by 467 sq-ft land by himself
can they ? tractors ? costly ?

imagine cost of fertilizer, water-pumping, other farm labours, transportation, schooling, etc ...

so what is the solution ?
