i believe that poaching should be controlled. the tiger project started in the 70's was a huge success; why not do something of that sort? any animal looks best in its natural environment. i have heard of many americans keeping large carnivores like tigers and pumas as personal pets; would you agree to that as well in the name of conservation? also, what about zoos and circus, where they also keep wild animals? would that also be in the interest of conservation? the truth is that animals raised in this manner are helpless to fend for themselves if introduced back into their natural environment and mostly die. unless we permit wildlife to thrive where they belong, which is in the wild and give them conducive environment (no poaching or human intervention), not much will be achieved. Another thing is that such pet tigers when interbreeding will have such a closed gene pool that soon the offspring will start having genetic defects.
