Do good internet research
by Subir Kumar Dhar on Feb 26, 2007 11:39 AM

Hi,

Really a few good interesting points - especially on the clothing aspects.

A good suggestion by Sajith about Lonely Planet - we too depend heavily on it. Now the new Outlook Traveller series is also a good source of information.

I find the best way to get information on travel destinations is through internet search and governemnt tourism department websites too.
I would like to differ on the mode of transport though - with the quadrilateral road coming up, and a general improvemnet of the road network, you may also consider traveling by your personal vehicle - be it a car or a bike if the distances are not much. It provides flexibility and saves on local transportation. In situations, when you dont get acco at a place, you may consider driving a bit further.

We have found that in many instances, you may get "Value for money" accommodation (eg home stays) in small places, as compared to the star hotels. This saves you money, as well as your money goes to the residents of the place.

You may find some good information on for weekend getways (includes info on few home stays too) at www.itnatureclub.com
