Job Interview Experience
by Alluru SaiPavanKumar on Feb 05, 2007 04:27 PM

When I reflect back on my interview experience which has successfully resulted in my getting a middle management position directly after graduation, four points stand out clearly which I would like to share with you.
1.) Before entering into the room, I was informed by another candidate, that he already got the job because of a very good recommendation and his ability?, and this interview is only for namesake. I am a person with jovial disposition, So, I congratulated him and I clearly remember entering the room in a much relaxed way."OK, Even if I am not going to get this job, let me finish this interview since I came a long way". My tension evaporated as that was clearly a gone case and I need not impress anybody.(I thought so at that time)
2.) My present boss has asked many technical questions which I have answered correctly. The one I could not answer, I simply said" Sorry Sir, This is the concept I remember, It may take a little time before I can you give you a satisfactory answer if you want." He simply shrugged and handed me over to HR Manager.
3.) The HR manager straight away asked"You want Rs.5000/- per month. What about 3000/-." I replied "To maintain my standard of living I require a minimum of 4500/-. Less than that, I can neither justify my personal commitments nor the organization"
4.) Then,The dialogue between me and The V.P ensued as follows"Many of your sub-ordinates may request you favours like permission to go out before time etc.. How would you deal with it?" "I shall give permissions if it would not affect the deadlines too much and on a condition that they shall work extra next day to compensate" " What if they don't do that after getting permission?"
"Relations are two-way, I shall give permission once and for the first time. If they cheat, they won't get a second chance"
NOTE: I was selected with a starting salary of Rs.7500/- and the 'another candidate' (remember!!) got selected with a salary of Rs.4000/- for a different position.
Hopefully, This experience may provide others useful insights regarding interview dynamics.
