Work experience carries more weight as one is on the job and gets an experience of the know - how of the job. Theory on the other hand is something that some person has documented after having complete knowledge of the subject. And complete knowledge comes only if one gets completely involved and is aware of the know - how of the same. Theory is necessary to get you started, but experience is necessary to get you ahead.
