Work experience before MBA
by TAPAN DUTTA on Jul 22, 2006 01:50 PM

In my career spanning nearly 35 yrs and about 15 of those in top mgmt slot, I have hired as well as tought in B-Schools as a visiting faculty.
It is my considered opinion that students who have had 2 to 3 years work exp. in professionally managed and progressive organisation are in a better position to understand and appreciate the MBA Programmes/ courses, particularly the case studies and lectures delivered by the visiting faculties from industry. These students when they go out to the job market are in a better position to impress the interviewers with their more practical approach to problem solving. Subsequently also they move faster in the organisation and there are plenty of such examples in big global consulting firms like Mckinsy, BCG etc.
