I really dont u'stand the necessity of laying the 60% cutoff in the boards. If the IITs want that student should study class 12th syllabus well and that the coaching institutes do not 'make' money , IITs should set no set of pattern! That will be better. They should make a flexible paper that covers all the features of class 12th well. There may be a screening that covers hitherto neglected portions...the mains may be a typical IIT paper. This would restrain the ill coaching institutes. U SEE FRENZ often by bad luck or the fault of the 'board'(esp. state boards of bihar and UP where the craze for IITs is max.)one may not be able to secure the stipulated minimum.

Regarding the attempts,i think at least three chances should be allowed .This will definitly relieve a 2nd attempter much and he will be able to take the test in good humour.Chances grow slim as no. of attempts go beyond 2 but at least some relaxation should be given ;u see IIT is IIT ! where is an engineer that did not dream of IIT and really worked hard for it.Let it be a fair game and give every possible and logical chance to one and all to realize a dream !!!
Aint those who were not at IITs still have a hole in hrt.
