I enjoyed my living alone days in Bandra Mumbai. The first thing I learnt was to cook my own food. I purchased a fridge, washing machine, gas oven, food mixer and the necessary cooking utensils. I loved cooking since the roadside food did not go well with me. If you want to save on food which is quite a bit, learn to cook.
Also I made lot of good friends and insisted on visiting them every so often so much so that I had the most friends in my group. Also my we all used to jam in my flat every weekend & holidays and have fun. That built good relationships. So, make as many friends as you can and visit them - do not expect them only to visit you - to oversome loneliness and homesickness.
Just in passing: Our friendships were so good and genuine that I permanently left one house key with my good neighbour with the instructions to give to any of my friends who would want it during my absence and they never once misused my trust.
