Wonderful story
by Bill on Jul 12, 2005 01:16 AM

I understand perfectly well how the author feels. I grew up mostly abroad well exposed to an open society and open minds; have also lived in India and seen how naive, senseless, superstitious and whimsical this society can sometimes be.

I am not laying blame or criticism at Indians but just pointing out what I have experienced and endorse the author's spirit. We are half a century behind the rest of the world in attitude & mentality. Technology and gadgets are not the yardstick to measure development with. Frankness, impartiality and and the ability to differentiate fable/screen fantasy from reality counts a lot.

Just 1 justification: How many Indians honestly consider things like adopting an orphan, donating blood and organs, leaving a portion of wealth to charity, partaking in environmental action etc. Especially without relgion, superstition and societal "opinion" influencing their decision.
