It can be very hard to make such choices. This is a very simple case. There is not much difference in money but there is a definite threat to the career.
But there are other cases where you lose your position but money is better. Say a IT lecturer making 25,000 pm offered an entry level post in europe! There you have more money and a chance to get your family over too.
