Having been a University teacher and researcher for over four decades I can say it is one of the most demanding and highly stressed jobs for any one dedicated to the cause. Contrary to the general perception, one has to put in 12 to 14 hours per day for 340 to 350 days in a year and work selflessly placing the interests of students, colleagues, institution and the country above one's own. There are no sundays, no holidays and not much time for the family. It is not meant for those who want a "khushi life" or monetory benefits, but one of service for the advancement of humanity and the value system. However, looking at the affection and respect bestowed by one's students and diverse professional colleagues even many years after retirement, it is a most satisfying, enjoyable and a truly noble one with immense opportunities. Only those who are willing to face the evolving demands of the educational system and shared values and above all ethics should go for it.
