Da Vinci Code
by TG on Feb 22, 2005 06:59 PM

The article hit the nail on the head. It's so obviously pretentious of celebrities to spout literary titles to make themselves look intellectual ( Beauty with Brains or Hunk with Humanity, if you like). It's just like the south Indian cine actresses of yesteryears, who always claimed that they studied at Churchpark Convent in Chennai. With the exception of the current CM Jayalalitha, no one else's claim to be an alumnus of that institution has been proved.
I too am reading The Da Vinci Code at present and just coincidentally, I was also thinking of The Name of the Rose, which I had read years before and thinking of how this fares in comparison. That was a masterpiece which blended suspense, mystery, literary history and showed the protagonist in different lights as you progressed through the novel, as the incidents were not merely linked to the mystery alone.
Anyhow, I don't think this is going to cure our celebrities of their claims to be heads above the hoi polloi, when their main aim in life is to cater to the fantasies of the people and to make money out of it!
