Darker side of Call Center
by Karan on Nov 19, 2004 12:54 AM

While call-centers have solved the problem of unemployment, have improved living standards & helped strenghtening the economy, it has brought in many physiological problems as shared by Subhash.

A person with an exp of 1 yr in call center can easily get Rs, 12-15000 p.m., besides having enormous growth opportunities. But one has go undergo huge amount of torment and agony. I have been working with one of the top companies in this business and have witnessed all the problems like back to back calls, skipping meals, insufficient time for personal life etc.

Life in a call center is robotic. Schedules are fixed and followed strictly. Its difficult for a person to take break even for nature's call. One has to work weather he is sick or suffering from pain.

However, inspite of all the nuisance, youngsters throng for interviews in Walk-ins or Job-Fairs. Its because there arn't jobs otherwise. A common BA/BCom graduate will not get a job paying as good, along with facilities like Gym, Meals, Transport.

Only thing that one can wish is the management of these companies become senstive to these issues and salvage these little soldiers who have resurrected the falling economy.
