Sachin the Great
by Rigved Kulkarni on Dec 09, 2008 06:06 PM

In my honest opinion, Sachin has been the greatest batsman India has produced. Or rather the world has ever seen. I know there have been many other greats, Sir Don, Lara, Sobers, Richards, and our very own Sunny Gavaskar. But I am still sticking to Sachin. There are few reasons I am going to explain why:
1) His technique has no flaws. Time and again people all over the world have tried to point out his flaws. Other teams have tried to present a picture of trying to find his flaws and plan as per that. However, he is still going strong at a career age of 19 years. Yes he has been identified as one who plays uppishly and has given his wicket that way. But still he has countered the plans most of the time. Remember he has the highest number of runs and centuries in both formats.
2) This point is even more heartening. The way he has presented himself, kept himself away from any controversy, the way he has been one of the best ambassadors for the game, the way he has behaved, the way he has not let success go into his heads and so on. He has always enjoyed his game like a kid does, honestly, innocently and to the fullest.
3) He has been a good Samaritan off the field too. He has been a great person and thats what puts him on the top of the list. He is a celebrity, but apart from being thronged by public and security, he still is calm and cool and always concerned about being normal human being.
Many other things are there, but I would like to stop here and gauge responses.
