lee's purple patch...
by Kumaraswamy Pillay on Feb 04, 2008 09:03 AM

Well every player will have a purple patch somewhere in their careers. Lee is having one now. Enjoy it as much as you can until it lasts for we dont know when he will get injured and be out of action for another 6 months. Having said that i think indian management took the right decision of leaving dravid and ganguly out. Dravid is any way injured and out now. Gangu was going nowhere with his poor fitness. Its tough to take him only on batting as he is a big liability in the field also he is already going to be 36 and unrealistic that he will be playing the world cup 2011. So considering all that it is a bold decision. But i felt the start of this experiment should have been against some what lower level teams like newzealand or atleast against pakistan and not against australia. It can be a shattering experience for an youngster to have checkmated by brett lee in perth or brisbane. That will prove very harmful to their confidence. BCCI should not waste this opportunity and invest in right kind of guys so that their investment yields the right result. If an youngster is selected he should be given chance atleast for couple of tournaments so that we can learn about his real worth. Fans please keep faith and dont get agitated if our guys are losing some matches as every investment will take some time to give fruit and we cant expect a tendu out of a new guy very early in their career. Lets hope that atleast some of them utilize the chance and go on to become good players.
