More like propaganda than an article
by aditi sengupta on Apr 24, 2008 03:58 PM

IPL definitely has its place in cricket and yes there are many positives of the game, in terms of cricket or money. I agree with all those points and the author also lists them through his almost daily columns.

What is really hideous is that you dont get to hear the downside of things. I would have expected this author to give a balanced judgment taking the cons into account, but he too seems to have joined the money bandwagon alone.

When you start only praising something and that too at the top of your voice and in numbers, it turns into a typical product. You suppress healthy views which show the flipside and start running truant.

This is when articles like these seem more like advertising propaganda than anything else.

Example, the author is heell bent on trying to prove that parochialism is creeping into IPL. Ok, agreed it is for the people who belong to the 8 cities or nearby regions. But that probably does not even account for 2 percent of the population. What about the rest of the country? Who do they cheer or form loyalties?

I do not however dispute that parochialism is creeping into the local crowd. Ok. But surely, if that happens, then there will be lesser takers for the sport when you play intra country tournaments. You have to understand that either a league like this will be successful or country level will be successful. They may co-exist but both cannot be successful. A simple way to understand this is to look around other sports and you get the answer.
