Hi Harsha zhaveri. You may argue that money is wasted because it would have fed some poor people. I agree. But a nation has got to have character and its popular expression is art and sports. One form of appreciation is fan adulation and it happens everywhere. You dont improve the health of our nation by cutting down here. If such celebrations occur ever month then you may be right. But this is not going to make a dent in our economy. Rather, the proud Indians were a happy lot and have done themselves a good deal by relaxing a bit. I am sure whatever money that was "wasted" will be more than recovered as it is known that good sentiment improves productivity and results in a positive culture. Prosperity follows when people feel good. Let them bask in glory. It does make India richer and better.
all art is waste. Money can be utilised in projects and agriculture. Let us not forget that millions around the world know about India's victory and celebrating victory is but natural. Excesses are there and critics like you will point out and keep balance. What you mention applies to all of us in our daily life too? Why do you need a mercedez benz if you can do with a small car? Why LCD TV if you can have 21" TV? Why do u go on a honeymoon. Why not rent a house nearby in mumbai?
