I do not have numbers about what amount of money was spent by the government on those festivities. I would have assumed it was a chance for the government to get some money from BCCI. If BCCI wants to organise such kind celebrations it needs support from government like the security and traffic control etc.
I have to say BCCI should organise such an event. They are the people who should be promoting the game because that is in their best interest. They could have sold such events to Media, and other sponsors and made money out of it.
It is the effecient use of that money that government made for supporting this cause should be tracked for the causes that the author is reporting not about raising of that money.
Can we discuss balancing of budgets and not having fiscal deficits every year before we get into such discussions as that would be main event that will bring out the 80% people out of poverty and not by controlling spending on such events.
