Unrealistic expectations
by Jim on Oct 15, 2007 10:10 PM

For all those who were gunning for the heads of the seniors, this should serve as a lesson. The bowling is very young and is the same as it was in SA. But still, we gave away over 300 almost everytime the Aussies batted first.

For some reason Indian fans like to play selector instead of getting people that are playing to play better. There is this notion that if one player is different we could win a game. It is not about the other 10 that did not contribute. It is always about that one player they want to replace!!!

Why do we do this? Well my take is that all these guys want to show that they know how to run a team better than anyone. The result is that we end up with a bunch of hysterical and idiotic reactions. No one has talked about how to get the guys better.

We dont want to discuss how Yuvi could improve, or how Uthappa needs to get better. We dont want to talk about the change in action of Irfan and how he still cannot get the swing he is famous for. Instead we celebrate the fact that he is in the team and the alone can make the team win.

This goes to the players heads as well. They are thinking more about the one performance that will keep them above everything rather than the team. Look at what Irfan was saying all through. There is no realization of loss of form or loss of action, pace or swing. All of these for him were natural. Instead of focussing on them he was talking about who supported him and who did not!!! to be continued
