Today it is a ball, tomorrow who knows what it can be. A player is given a certain equipment to play with and everybody shud get the same equipment, nothing more and nothing less; the equipment shud be as uniform among everyone as possible. If the ball helped him in some way, thats an unfair advantage to have. Atleast he shud have gotten clearance before the game. I think he shud be penalised in some manner, but maybe stripping the score and the validity of the final game might be too harsh. It shud be harsh enuf to discourage such incidents in the future.
