Wow.. you've to be kidding. Please Google "Golliwog" before using it in print or speech. It is terribly derisive and I'm surprised that an Indian has used it in this article. The term "wog" is derisively used in UK,Australia and European countries to describe any dark, brown skinned person. It is terribly offensive and as bad as the word "nigger".
YOu should apologize to your readers and in particular the talented young man from Sri Lanka.
I realize that you will probably come back with some sort of lame excuse, as in you did not mean it, it's positive etc. But you need to realize that some words in English change over time and "Golliwog" is one of them. It is no longer cool to use that word. As a journalist it's your responsiblity to ensure that you do not include potentially racist terms.
