Youthenize not euthenize
by ramprasad on Nov 24, 2006 09:24 PM

Since Dravid Chappell took over, the mantra has been 'youthenize the team' - but they have managed only to 'euthenize the team'.

They have given up the valuable and experienced players - Kumble, Laxman, Ganguly, Zaheer Khan etc and instead filled team with Kaif, Raina, RP Singh et al.

Today other than Tendulkar, Dravid and may be Yuvraj somewhat, Harbhajan - though still not very consistent , Agarkar are the only players with some experience to their name.

Without right mix of experience and youth, it is difficult to see Indian team as world-beaters. The acclaimed Australian team has average age of about 32. Look at this below :

Gilchrist - 35
Shane Watson - 25
Ponting - 32
Damien Martyn - 35
Hussey - 31
Symonds - 31
Michael Clarke - 25
Brett Lee - 30
Brad Hogg - 35
Bracken - 29
McGrath - 36

Average age - 31.3

SO MUCH FOR THE MANTRA OF 'YOUTH'.
